Yock, Paul G.

Paul G. Yock, M.D., is the Martha Meier Weiland Professor of Medicine and Professor of Mechanical Engineering, by courtesy. He is also a professor of bioengineering and director of the Stanford Biodesign Program. Dr. Yock is a Stanford cardiologist internationally known for his work in inventing, developing and testing new devices, including the Rapid Exchange balloon angioplasty system, which is the dominant angioplasty system in use worldwide. He also invented a Doppler-guided hypodermic needle system, the Smart Needle and P-D Access. In 1998 Dr. Yock developed a new interdepartmental and inter-school program at Stanford, the Medical Device Network (MDN). MDN helps stimulate and guide the process of biomedical technology innovation within the University. In 2001 MDN was expanded under Dr. Yock’s leadership into a broader research and educational initiative, the Stanford Biodesign Program. MDN is now the Biodesign Community. The primary mission of Biodesign is to promote the invention and implementation of new health technologies through interdisciplinary research and education at the frontiers of engineering and the biomedical sciences.

Yoder, J. D.

John-David (J-D) Yoder is Associate Professor and Chairman of Mechanical Engineering in the T.J. Smull College of Engineering at Ohio Northern University. His doctorate is from the University of Notre Dame. Yoder's research interests include controls, robotics, and information processing, as well as education. His areas of interest within education include innovation, design, creativity, entrepreneurship, and bringing engineering practice into the classroom. He has received the SAE International Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award. Prior to teaching, he ran a small consulting and R&D company and served as proposal engineering supervisor for GROB Systems, Inc.
